Yet another cool botanical item derived from coconut (Cocos nucifera)- in this case, the "exocarp" (the outermost layer of the fruit). These are really cool "accent pieces" for all sorts of biotope replications, ranging from aquariums to vivariums!
Each little chunk has a unique shape and texture, adding textural diversity to your aquascape. They also leach a surprising amount of tannins upon initial submersion. If you look in a lot of tropical streams, you'll see all sorts of material like this strewn about the substrate. It's a very natural look.
They're highly variable, yet most seem to measure about 1.5" (3.81cm) on average, with some being slightly smaller or slightly larger.
PREPARATION: You'll need to boil them for at least an hour (sometimes a bit more) to waterlog them, because they float like crazy when first immersed! We recommend following the boil with an overnight soak, then go for it and add them to your aquatic feature.
ORIGIN: South America
NOTE: These are a natural product, and display variation in color, size, and texture. Each pod is unique! The photo serves as a reasonable representation of what to expect.
All of our aquatic botanicals are intended for ornamental aquarium or terrarium use only. Please use common sense and take the time to boil or soak all botanicals prior to using them, to reduce the possibility of problems. Always go slow when introducing any botanicals into your systems, so you can judge the effect they have on your fishes and plants. They are not intended for human consumption. DO NOT INGEST!
